DAESSY Mounting System
Opposite Side Support for Heavy Devices
Introduction
DAESSY Mounting Assemblies are strong enough to support the weight of any common communication device and laptop computer, including accessories such as speech synthesizers, up to a weight of 15 lbs when attached to the frame of most electric or heavy manual wheelchairs.
When attached to the frame of some folding or lightweight wheelchairs the mount may deflect due to flexing on the part of the wheelchair frame itself. Flexing may also take place under the forces exerted on the mount by some users even when the mounted device is light in weight. The OPPOSITE SIDE SUPPORT (OSS) is available for use with the RIGID MOUNT, FOLDING MOUNT and REAR FOLDING MOUNT to provide additional support from the opposite side of the wheelchair.
The OPPOSITE SIDE SUPPORT cannot be used with the LOCKING SWING AWAY MOUNT.
Description
When used with the RIGID MOUNT or FOLDING MOUNT the OPPOSITE SIDE SUPPORT normally uses an identical Frame Clamp Assembly, Vertical Tube and Index Clamp with a Stem Mounted Support at the top of the Vertical Tube.
The Horizontal Tube of the mounting assembly must be longer to reach across and rest in the stem support. The end of the Horizontal Tube rests in the U-shaped slot in the top of the stem support.
Stem Mounted Support (SMS)
When it is not possible to attach the OPPOSITE SIDE SUPPORT at a location directly opposite the location of the mounting assembly it will be necessary to 'fit' the OPPOSITE SIDE SUPPORT separately using the same procedure as was followed for the Frame Clamp Assembly and Vertical Tube of the mounting assembly.
