Quick Release Mechanism

Introduction
The DaeSSy Mounting System uses a proprietary Quick Release mechanism to allow the mounted devices to be readily detached from a mount for storage or transport or for use in a different location. A Quick Release Base (USB) is attached to the mounting system or other location and a Quick Release Plate (QRP) is attached to the device.

Mechanism of Quick Release

Quick Release Base

The Quick Release Base is a flat plate which has an annular groove around a semi-circular raised portion and a spring loaded locking pin adjacent to the groove to retain the Quick Release Plate. The pin has a ring to withdraw it to slide the plate off. Two 1/4" diameter holes on an exact 1.500" spacing allow the Quick Release Base to be attached to other fittings using two Allen bolts.

The Quick Release Plate has a semicircular cut-out on one edge with a hole for the locking pin adjacent to the semicircle; the plate thickness is the same as the width of the annular groove. The cut-out on the plate fits into the groove on the base and is held in position by the locking pin in the hole.

Quick Release Base: Attachment to Mounting Assemblies

When used on a mounting assembly the Quick Release Base is normally attached to a Tube Mount (TM3T) with two Allen bolts and the Tube Mount is fastened to the horizontal tube of the assembly, or to one arm of the U-tube on the DESK MOUNT. The Tube Mount may be rotated around the horizontal tube to tilt the keyboard or touch surface of the mounted device forward or backwards relative to the user. In this application the flat surfaces of the Quick Release Base and the Quick Release Plate are parallel to the horizontal tube.

When attached to the Tube Mount the Quick Release Base is also known as the Tube Mounted Quick Release (USB+TM3T) and was known as the Tube Mounted Snap-On Base with the Part Code TUSB.

The Quick Release Base may be fastened to any flat surface, such as a lap tray, using the two 1/4 inch holes. When it is attached in this way a hole must be cut for the locking pin socket and the ring must be retracted from underneath the tray.

Quick Release Base: Alternate Attachment

The Quick Release Base may be attached to other components of the mounting system to allow it to be mounted at the top of a vertical tube off to one side of a wheelchair or on the cross tube on a walker or to a scooter tiller bar. Contact Daessy for more information on custom attachment.

Sideways Tilting Quick Release Base - USBA

Sideways tilting Quick Release BaseA linked higher resolution image will load in a second browser window; see the second window display advice if the image does not display.

This version of the Quick Release Base is attached to the Tube Mount by a collar that allows it to be rotated ‘sideways’. The Tube Mount may be rotated around the horizontal tube as described above but in addition the Sideways Tilting Quick Release Base may be rotated relative to the Tube Mount. When these two motions are combined a device may be tilted toward the user and then sideways to suit a person with a viewing position tilted to the side.
