Measurements Needed to Make a Custom Laptop Holder - Front Side

The DAESSY Laptop Holder for attaching PC-Compatible laptops to the DAESSY Quick Release System uses a Polycarbonate (Lexan) plastic base plate attached to a Quick Release Plate with stainless steel clips holding the laptop onto the plastic base. The numbers and letters on the diagram show the measurements that are needed to build a custom fitted Laptop Holder.

FRONT VIEW OF THE LAPTOP

1F is the overall width of the laptop case to the outside of any curvature. This measurement will most often be the same as the 1B measurement from the back of the laptop; if the sides of the laptop are curved it may be different.

2Fr and 2Fl are the distances from either side of the laptop case to any location where a stainless steel clip 1" wide could be placed without obstructing anything that must be accessible when the laptop is in the holder.

3F is the height from the surface the laptop is resting on up to the tope of the laptop case; this IS NOT the height to the top of the screen, which is shown in dotted lines.

4F is the distance that the stainless steel clip can overlap onto the top edge of the case.

5F is the gap between the case and screen. The stainless steel clips is about the thickness of a dime and if the gap is too small it will not be possible to lock the screen closed when any clips are in place. A Velcro strap running through slots in the base and long enough to go over the screen can be supplied to hold the screen closed when the stainless steel clips prevent the screen from locking closed.

Where are the clips best located?

On the front edge the best place for the clips is near each corner so they are out of the way from accessing the keyboard.

If it is possible to place clips on both sides of the case within 1/3 of the distance from the front edge of the case to the back edge, then it may not be necessary to place clips on the front edge.

When there will be no overlapping front clips it is recommended that a non-overlapping clip be placed somewhere along the front edge to prevent the laptop sliding forward in the holder. This clip will only need to come about 1/3 of the way up the front of the case.
