INTRODUCTION
DAESSY mounting assemblies are connected to a wheelchair by a Frame Clamp Assembly made up of a Frame Clamp Inner Piece and a Frame Clamp Outer Piece joined by a Swivel Clamp. The Frame Clamp Inner Piece (UFCxxxxIP) clamps to the tubing of the wheelchair frame and varies in size and shape, indicated by the xxxx in the part code, to suit the wheelchair tubing. The Frame Clamp Outer Piece holds the mounting assembly and varies between the different mounting assemblies.

The RIGID MOUNT and the FOLDING MOUNT use the Frame Clamp Outer Piece (UFCOP) and the LOCKING SWING-AWAY MOUNT uses the Locking Swing Away Outer Piece (LSAOP). Both these outer pieces have a hole to hold the vertical tube of the mount. The vertical tube in all three mounting assemblies has an adjustable collar which controls the height and prevents the mount rotating away from the user. For the RIGID and FOLDING MOUNTS this collar is the Index Clamp (IC1) and for the LOCKING SWING-AWAY MOUNT it is the Locking Swing-Away Index Clamp. The vertical tube on all three mounts may be lifted out of the outer piece to remove the mounting assembly from the wheelchair.

The outer piece for the REAR FOLDING MOUNT is the Rear Folding Adapter (RFA) and for the LOCKABLE REAR FOLDING MOUNT is the Locking Rear Folding Adapter (LRFA) which perform the rearward folding action for these assembly. The side tube for the mount is clamped into a Tube Mount (RTHTM) on the Rear Folding Adapter or Locking Rear Folding Adapter. The REAR FOLDING MOUNT and LOCKABLE REAR FOLDING MOUNT cannot easily be removed from the wheelchair.

Spacers can be used between the inner and outer pieces to increase the length of the frame clamp assembly and Offset Links can be used to move the outer piece sideways relative to the inner piece.

FRAME CLAMP ASSEMBLY FOR THE RIGID & FOLDING MOUNTS

Frame Clamp AssemblyThe Frame Clamp Assembly for the RIGID MOUNT and FOLDING MOUNT is a Frame Clamp Outer Piece (UFCOP) fastened to a Frame Clamp Inner Piece (UFCxxxxIP) clamped onto the tubing of the wheelchair. The outer piece has a hole which holds the vertical tube of the mounting assembly. Beside the hole is a small pin which locates in a hole in the Index Clamp (IC1) on the vertical tube.

The outer piece and inner piece of the Frame Clamp Assembly are fastened together by a Swivel Clamp which allows the outer piece to rotated to any position relative to the inner piece. The Frame Clamp Outer Piece sticks out 3¼ inches from the tubing onto which the inner piece is clamped, and the distance between the vertical tube of the mount and the wheelchair tube is 2 inches.

A Frame Clamp Spacer (UFCSPCR) can be placed between the two pieces to move the outer piece further away from the wheelchair frame or an Offset Link (O3L) used to move the outer piece up, down, backwards or forwards from the position of the inner piece. The Frame Clamp Spacer and Offset Link are described in more detail at the foot of this page.

FRAME CLAMP ASSEMBLY FOR THE LOCKING SWING-AWAY MOUNTS

Locking Swing Away Frame Clamp AssemblyThe Frame Clamp Assembly for the LOCKING SWING-AWAY MOUNT uses the Locking Swing-Away Outer Piece (LSAOP) and a Frame Clamp Inner Piece. An Offset Link is used as a connector between the two parts of this assembly. The Offset Link (O3L) allows the position of the Locking Swing-Away Outer Piece to be adjusted backwards and forwards or up and down relative to the inner piece for positioning the mounted device. The Locking Swing-Away Outer Piece has three locking pin holes for the spring-loaded pin on the Locking Swing-Away Index Clamp (ICLSA).

The Locking Swing-Away Outer Piece sticks out 4 inches from the tubing onto which the inner piece is clamped, and the distance between the vertical tube of the mount and the wheelchair tube is 2½ inches. An additional Offset Link can be used for greater position adjustment and a Frame Clamp Spacer (UFCSPCR) for moving the outer piece further away from the wheelchair frame. The Frame Clamp Spacer and Offset Link are described in more detail at the foot of this page.

FRAME CLAMP ASSEMBLY FOR THE REAR FOLDING MOUNT

Rear Folding Frame Clamp AssemblyThe Frame Clamp Assembly for the REAR FOLDING MOUNT is a combination of the Rear Folding Adapter/Tube Mount (RFA+RTHTM) and the Frame Clamp Inner Piece with an Offset Link (O3L) also included in many applications. The side tube of the REAR FOLDING MOUNT is clamped permanently into the Tube Mount on the Rear Folding Adapter. This mounting assembly cannot easily be removed from the wheelchair.

When the Rear Folding Adapter is attached to the inner piece using one Offset Link the Tube Mount extends 3¾ inches out from the wheelchair tube the inner piece is attached onto. The distance between the side tube of the mount and the wheelchair tube is 2½ inches. An extra Offset Link can be used for greater position adjustment and a Frame Clamp Spacer (UFCSPCR) for moving the outer piece further away from the wheelchair frame. The Frame Clamp Spacer and Offset Link are described in more detail at the foot of this page.

The Rear Folding Adapter can be rotated a full 360º around the position of the inner piece and the 'in-use' and folded positions of the mounting assembly are set by stops adjustable through 360º inside the Rear Folding Adapter.

FRAME CLAMP ASSEMBLY FOR THE LOCKABLE REAR FOLDING MOUNT

Lockable Rear Folding Frame Clamp Assembly The Frame Clamp Assembly for the LOCKABLE REAR FOLDING MOUNT is a combination of the Locking Rear Folding Adapter & Tube Mount (LRFA+RTHTM_) and the Frame Clamp Inner Piece with one or two Offset Links (O3L) in between.  The side tube of the LOCKABLE REAR FOLDING MOUNT is clamped permanently into the tube mount on the Locking Rear Folding Adapter.  This mount assembly cannot easily be removed from the wheelchair.

When the Locking Rear Folding Adapter is attached to the inner piece using one Offset Link the outer part of the Tube Mount and Lock Mechanism extends ___ inches out from the wheelchair tube the inner piece is attached onto.  The distance between the side tube of the mount and the wheelchair tube is ___ inches.  An extra Offset Link can be sued for greater position adjustment and a Frame Clamp Spacer (UFCSPCR) can be used for moving the adapter further away from the wheelchair.  The Frame Clamp Spacer and Offset Link are described in more detail at the foot of this page.

The Locking Rear Folding Adapter can be rotated a full 360º around the position of the inner piece.  The folded position of the mounting assembly can be set by an adjustable stop.

FRAME CLAMP INNER PIECES - STANDARD SIZES AVAILABLE

Frame Clamp Inner PiecesStandard Frame Clamp Inner Pieces have a Body and Cap held together by two ¼ inch socket (Allen) head bolts passing on either side of the tube to which the inner piece is attached. A clearance of at least ¾ inch is needed on either side of a tube to attach the inner piece. The Side Mount frame Clamp (described further down this page) may be used when there is not enough clearance on one side of the wheelchair tube to attach a standard inner piece.

Inner pieces have either a hole through the center of the Body for the Swivel Clamp Thread End which joins the parts of a Frame Clamp Assembly, or two threaded holes for attaching only the Head End of the Swivel Clamp.

On all the Frame Clamp Inner Pieces the end which attaches to the outer piece or Offset Link has circular grooves which engage with complementary grooves on the mating part. Two inner pieces cannot be fastened directly together because they have identical grooves—not complementary grooves. The IP-to-IP Adapter is needed to connect two inner pieces. Please contact DAESSY for more information.

Frame Clamp Inner Pieces (UFCxxxxIP) are available for:

  • 7/8 inch diameter; xxxx = 875
  • 1 inch diameter; xxxx = 1000
  • 1 1/8 inch diameter; xxxx = 1125
  • 1 1/4 inch diameter; xxxx = 1250
  • 1 1/2 inch diameter; xxxx = 1500
  • 7/8 inch square; xxxx = 875S
  • 1 inch square; xxxx = 1000S
  • 3/4 inch by 1 1/2 inch; xxxx = RT
  • 1-3/8 inch by 2-1/4 inch; xxxx = ST
Tubing 3/4 inch in diameter is fitted by using an adapter sleeve in either a 7/8 or 1 inch inner piece and tubing between 1 inch and 1 1/2 inch in diameter is fitted by using adapter sleeves in a 1½ inch inner piece. Adapters can also be used for unusual rectangular or square sizes and these are described further down this page.

For some rectangular sizes longer bolts can be used with a standard inner piece; i.e. the UFCRTIP can be expanded to fit 1½ inch square by using longer than normal bolts.

'SIDE MOUNT' FRAME CLAMP INNER PIECE

The Side Mount Frame Clamp Inner Piece (UFCxxxxSMIP) clamps onto a tube from only one side and may be needed when the only available tube on a wheelchair is close to a seat pan or other tubes. The clearance needed on the accessible side of the tube is 1¼ inches.

The side mount inner piece is made out of steel and the grooved face for attaching the outer piece is on an aluminium part permanently bolted to the steel inner piece. The Swivel Clamp Thread End is inside a hole through the grooved part.
The side mount inner piece is available only for 1 inch (xxxx = 1000) and 7/8" (xxxx = 875) diameter tubing.

'MULTIPLE FIT' FRAME CLAMP INNER PIECE

The Multiple Fit Frame Clamp Inner Piece (UFCMFIP) is a four-piece assembly that is used with different length bolts to fit rectangular tube from a smallest size of 1 inch wide by 1¼ inches high to a largest size of 2¾ inches wide by 3 inches high. It is very important that the bolts in the Multiple Fit Inner Piece are screwed in at least eight (8) turns when they are tight but they must not touch the bottom of the threaded hole. Also the bolts must be tightened evenly and the Multiple Fit Frame Clamp Inner Piece must not be used on wedge shaped or round tubing.

Best used as an assessment inner piece for mount evaluations, in most cases a standard inner piece solution for a rectangular wheelchair frame is available.

SUBSTITUTES FOR THE FRAME CLAMP INNER PIECE

Some wheelchairs do not have tubing onto which the Frame Clamp Inner Piece can be clamped and a substitute has to be used. An Inner Piece Adapter (UFCIPA) can be bolted onto any flat surface with two ¼ inch holes exactly 1½ inches apart. In many cases there will be bolt holes or flat surfaces on the wheelchair and a custom bracket to hold the Inner Piece Adapter can be attached. Contact DAESSY for more information.

FRAME CLAMP OUTER PIECE & INDEX CLAMP

Frame Clamp Outer PieceThe Frame Clamp Outer Piece used with the RIGID MOUNT and FOLDING MOUNT has one face grooved to attach to the Frame Clamp Inner Piece, a cross hole which holds the vertical tube for the mount and a hole through the center for the Swivel Clamp connecting the pieces of the frame clamp. Adjacent to the tube hole is a pin which locates in any of the holes in the Index Clamp and prevents the vertical tube rotating. The three holes in the Index Clamp allow the RIGID MOUNT to be lifted slightly up in the outer piece and rotated to a position away from the user.

SWIVEL CLAMP, SPACERS & OFFSET LINK

Swivel Clamp:

The Swivel Clamp is used to connect the parts of a Frame Clamp Assembly. The Head End has two ¼ inch holes and the Thread End (sometimes called the Nut End) has two holes threaded for a ¼ inch UNC bolt. The standard bolt length provided with a Swivel Clamp is 1 inch. The longer bolts needed to use the Swivel Clamp with a Frame Clamp Spacer (UFCSPCR) are supplied with the spacer.

Frame Clamp Spacer:

The Frame Clamp Spacer is ¾ inch thick and two can be used to move the Frame Clamp Outer Piece a maximum of 1½ inches further away from the tube on the wheelchair. The spacer can be used in combination with the Offset Link.

  • One side of the spacer has inner piece grooves, the other side outer piece grooves. The rim of the spacer is marked with the letters OP and IP; the IP side attaches to the Frame Clamp Inner Piece and the OP side to the outer piece.

Offset Link:

The Offset Link offsets the Frame Clamp Outer Piece 3 inches away from the Frame Clamp Inner Piece. The direction of the offset can be anywhere around a full circle.

  • One end of the Offset Link has inner piece grooves and is marked with the letters OP. The other end has outer piece grooves on the opposite side and is marked IP. The Frame Clamp Inner Piece is attached to the IP end and the outer piece to the OP end.
  • When two Offset Links are used the IP end of one is attached to the OP end of the other.
  • The Offset Link is ½ inch thick and moves the outer piece this amount further out on the wheelchair

The Offset Link is also described in the section on S-Tubes and Offset Links. This section also describes the Special Offset Link (O3LS) which has the grooves for the inner and outer pieces of the frame clamp both on the same side.
